A seminar on emergency in Karnal

A seminar on emergency was organised on 25 June in CPI (ML) party office in Karnal, Haryana. The chief speaker was CPI (ML) state in charge and the National Vice President of All India Kisan Mahasabha, Com. Prem Singh Gehlawat. The seminar was chaired by Com. Om Prakash Arya and conducted by Com. Mahendra Singh Chopra, state secretary. A cultural programme was also organised as part of the seminar. Some of the key concerns presented in the seminar included the complete indifference of the BJP led government in the centre and various states towards the countrywide anger against the killing of farmers in Mandsaur. PM Modi who is quick to tweet his condolences on loss of lives anywhere in the world, has been absolutely silent on killings in India- be it the killing of farmers in Mandsaur. It was further pointed out that cash crunch resulting from demonetization has given rise to agrarian crisis and the problems of farmers have only increased further. Two main demands have been in the centre of the current movements- loan waiver for the farmers and ensuring at least 50% profit. From Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh to Maharashtra, Gujarat and several other states, the farmers’ movements are going stronger. The anger of the farmers betrayed by the government is finding expression. Historically, peasant movements have played a critical role in democratic advancement of Indian masses and towards providing energy to the communist movements. Even today, every victory in the farmers’ movements will prove decisive in the defeat of the fascist assaults by the BJP-Sangh.
