National Convention of Workers to be held on August 8, 2017

A joint meeting of Central Trade Unions including- AICCTU, AITUC, AIUTUC, CITU, HMS, INTUC, LPF, SEWA, TUCC and UTUC, was held on 2 June 2017 in Delhi. The trade unions attending the meeting expressed serious concern regarding the anti-worker and anti-people policies of the BJP led Central government. The policies of the government have led to rampant violation of labour laws and also several attempts to change the laws in order to benefit the companies at the cost of the rights of the workers. This is accompanied by aggressive moves to privatize all public-sector units. While on hand there have been drastic cut in the expenditure of welfare schemes, on the other hand we have witnessed entry of 100% FDI and private corporate sector in strategic sectors like railways, defence, port & dock and coal. Condemning the government for non-implementation of commitments given to the organizations of central government employees, the Central Trade Union Organisations also expressed solidarity with ongoing struggles of workers in various sectors. The CTUOs have decided that a massive National Convention of Workers will be held on 8 August 2017 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. A call has been issued by the CTUOs to all trade unions and workers in general irrespective of affiliations to join and participate in the convention and participate in deciding the next course of united struggles.
