Obituary : Comrade Girija Ram!

Comrade Girija Ram, from the Nawada village of the Sahar block in Bhojpur, Bihar, passed away on 5 May 2017 at the age of 70 years in the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). His lungs had stopped functioning. Before the special conference of the Party held in 1979, Comrade Girija Ram was active as a full time worker in the Party. Immediately after the conference in 1979, thousands of angry people reached Ara on hearing the news of his arrest in Narayanpur, to protest his arrest. This was the Party’s first protest after adopting the line of mass movements at the 1979 conference. In Sahar, he used to be known as ‘Hari’. Around 1986-87, he was given charge of the Dumraon sub-division in Buxar. The Navanagar-Dumraon region was well-known those days for militant and brave farmers’ struggles. In this region, Comrade Girija Ram was known as ‘Prabhat’.

We will fondly remember Girija Ram’s comradely attitudes, his adherence to discipline, his courage and ideological conviction. The Party and people have lost a brave flighter.

Adieu, Comrade Girija Ram!
