Condemn the Delhi Court's Acquittal of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the Sexual Harassment Case of Women Wrestlers.
The acquittal of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by a Delhi court is not only blatantly unjust, but exposes the BJP's sustenance of political patronage and the impunity of its leaders, who have time and again enjoyed unabated protection. The BJP's rhetoric of women's empowerment has rung hollow repeatedly in Hathras, Unnao, Manipur, or when young women protestors demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan were doxed by right-wing trolls on social media.
This case against the women wrestlers was set up to fail from the get-go, with delayed FIRs, a compromised Oversight Committee filled with BJP members, and Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh being felicitated by BJP MLAs in Uttar Pradesh, on one hand; and on the other, the protesting sportswomen facing mockery and brutal repression when they took to the streets. Despite this, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and others who led this struggle showed extraordinary courage in taking on not just an individual, but an entire system of political patronage.
CPI(ML) Liberation stands firmly with the wrestlers and reaffirms that this acquittal is not the end of their fight for justice.
