Against CNT-SPT Amendments and Corruption in Panchayats

The CPI (ML) held a dharna at the Gumla Block HQ on 15 April 2017 on a 10-point charter of demands including roll back of amendments to the CNT-SPT Act and ending the rampant corruption at Panchayat and Block levels. Addressing the dharna District Secretary Gajendra Singh said that the fact that the amendments to the CNT-SPT Act had to be passed by-passing all democratic procedures is itself a proof that the Jharkhand government is a government of the corporate companies. Speaking at the dharna District Committee member Com. Lalsoy Bhagat said that development works at the Block and Panchayat levels are in the control of the BDO and the Mukhiya and therefore heavily under the influence of middlemen, giving rise to rampant corruption. Corruption cannot be ended unless people’s control is established on development works.
