Citizens Protest in Patna Against Undeclared Emergency

Citizens marched in Patna on 25 June 2017 against the Modi government’s attempts to impose an undeclared emergency in the country. Leaders and activists of various organizations gathered at Kargil Chowk (Gandhi Maidan) and resolved to protect the constitution and democracy against autocracy.

A march to save democracy and the Constitution was also held at Darbhanga by a call was made to escalate the struggle against communal-fascist forces.

The protest in Patna was led by leaders from AIPWA, AICCTU, RYA, CORUS, AISA, and CPI(ML). The speakers said that Mohammad Akhlaq, Majloom Ansari, Imtiaz Khan, Pehlu Khan, Sheikh Naeem, Mohammad Halim, Mohammad Sajjad, Uttam Verma, Ganesh Gupta, Zafar Hussain, Junaid and others have become victims lynching by frenzied mobs. BJP and RSS forces are preparing frenzied mobs against the minorities. Several killings have been done in the last 3 months under the Vasundhara Raje led BJP government in Rajasthan. Earlier, mob lynchings in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan were carried out in a particular manner by inciting ‘rumours’ of beef-eating, cattle-theft, or child-theft.

The mob-lynching of Zafar Hussain on the early morning of 16 June in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan had no background of incitement through rumour-spreading. Zafar was killed because he was fighting for the honour and dignity of poor women who were being video-graphed while defecating. The latest incident is the lynching of Junaid by a crazed mob on a train in Ballabhgarh.

The speakers said try as they may, fascist forces will not succeed in the conspiracy against the Constitution and democracy. The Indira autocracy was forced to end, and so will the present attempt be beaten back. We shall continue the fight to save the Constitution and democracy in the country.
