Comrade Jagdish Sharma Martyrdom Day Observed In Palamu

Com Jagdish Sharma was a popular Party leader from Palamu and an active and influential trade union leader in Bagodar (Giridih district). On 4 May 2000 criminal mafia goons murdered him in Palamu. Com Jagdish Sharma was a leading warrior in the anti-feudal farmers’ struggle in Palamu block. Even before he joined the CPI (ML) he had been associated with the Naxalbari farmers’ agitation. His martyrdom day was observed in Patan on 4 May 2017.

A Sankalp Sabha was held at Saguna Patan. Speaking at the meeting State committee leader Com. Kalicharan said that today once again feudal forces are gaining power in Palamu and they are illegally capturing the land of the poor. At such a time it is important to remember Com Jagdish Sharma and carry forward his work by strengthening the workers’ movement.

Today the government which talks of ‘development for all’ is oppressing workers. In 2 years they have increased MNREGA wages by Re 1! On the other hand, the CNT-SPT Act has been amended in order to give adivasis’ and farmers’ lands at throw-away prices to Adani and other capitalists. The people can see clearly whose of ‘development’ this government has in mind. The BJP wants to get votes by spreading hatred and divisiveness as the British did. The political discourse has become about cows, mandir and masjid, while real issues like employment, education and workers’ issues are not given any importance.

Party comrades inside Hazaribagh Central Jail led by BN Singh observed 2 minutes’ silence on 4 May to pay tribute to Com Jagdish Sharma.
