CPI(ML), AICCTU Protest in Puducherry

On 19 May, CPI(ML) and AICCTU organized a massive Dharna in front of the Legislative assembly of Puducherry UT against the theanti labour attitude of the Congress government led by Chief Minister Narayanasamy. More than hundred CPI(ML) and AICCTU activists and workers participated in the Dharna. The main demands of the protesters were: (i) Immediate announcement of Labour Policy as assured during the election campaign of the Chief Minister Narayanasamy. (ii) Announcement of Monthly pension Rs.7500/- to Construction workers which was being denied by the successive governments. (iii) Immediate withdrawal of ‘The Puducherry Loading and unloading (Regulation of Employment and welfare) Bill 2017 as the bill was anti labour and unconstitutional. (iv) Complete prohibition of all illegal contract labour system which is rampant in the UT of Puducherry. Stern action against the officers of the labour department who fail to monitor illegal contract labour system. (v) Round the year guarantee of employment to all Handloom Weavers in the Co-operative Societies and Rs.5000/- as Rainy season assistance to weavers.

A detailed memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister as the budget session of the assembly went on.
