Left Parties Stage Dharna in Ranchi against Escalating Communal Tension

5 Left Parties – CPI, CPM, CPI (ML), SUCI (C) and MCC – organized a dharna on 20 April 2017 at the Raj Bhawan in Ranchi against the deterioration of communal harmony in Jharkhand and to develop people’s protest against the hate-mongering RSS-Bajrang Dal-VHP in order to preserve Jharkhand’s tradition of unity and goodwill. The dharna demanded a judicial enquiry into conspiracy to incite communal riots and the police brutality during the Ram Navami procession in Surhi (Bokaro district), proper compensation to the victims, identification of communal hate-mongering forces, and fixing new routes for the Ram Navami and Moharram processions instead of the current disputed routes. A memorandum with these demands was submitted to the Governor.

Addressing the dharna CPI leader Com. Bhuvaneshwar Mehta said that under cover of communal riots a conspiracy is going on to hand over land to Adani in the name of the Adani power plant for supply of electricity to Bangladesh. He stressed that the people would never allow this conspiracy to succeed. CPI (M) State Secretary Com. Gopikant Baxi said that Left parties have always stood against the loot and acquisition of farmers’ lands and against communal hate-mongering, and will continue to do so. CPI (ML) State Secretary Com. Janardan Prasad said that in order to maintain communal harmony in society Left parties must expose the BJP’s conspiracies because the BJP always spreads communal hate, violence and riots to impose its pro-corporate policies and to crush people’s struggles. Left forces must strive to preserve communal harmony in every nook and corner. The speakers expressed solidarity with farmers in their struggle against the government and Adani to save the land in Godda.
