Protests Across India on the First Anniversary of Demonetisation

CPI(ML) along with other left parties observed black day on 8 November to mark the first anniversary of the demonetization that was introduced by the central govt. last year on the same date.  Far from addressing the issues of black money and corruption, the NoteBandi, has only resulted in loss of lives and destruction of livelihoods. Several programmes were organized against demonetization and reports of a few of the programmes are shared below:

On the occasion of the countrywide Black Day against Note Ban, GST, and linking of Aadhaar to ration, the CPI(ML) organized a protest march in Darbhanga from Polo Maidan to Laheriyaserai, led by senior leaders of the Party and the Insaaf Manch. The Prime Minister’s effigy was burnt at Laheriyaserai Tower and a meeting was held at which speakers pointed out the failures of the note ban and GST which have snatched away livelihoods and ruined small and middle traders. Protest marches and effigy burnings were also held at Bahadurpur Block, Sadar Block, Biraul, Kewati, Gaudabodam, Benipur, Alinagar, Simri Bazaar (Singhwara Block), Manigachhi, Hanuman Nagar, and other places. Speakers addressing the meetings condemned PM Modi and his government for celebrating the anniversary of the disastrous note ban instead of apologizing for destroying the economy of the country.

Left parties including the CPI (ML) took out a protest march and burnt PM Modi’s effigy at Kalyani Chowk in Muzaffarpur on 8th November.

In Ranchi, Left parties jointly organized a protest march that culminated into a protest meeting that was addressed by the leaders of the left parties. The leaders exposed the disastrous consequences of both demonetization and GST while addressing the meeting. A joint protest was also organized in Bokaro.
