Protests by All India Kisan Mahasabha and AIARLA on 9 August

In response to a countrywide call by the All India Kisan Mahasabha and AIARLA on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement on 9 August, dharna protests and meetings were held across the country on 9 August on the issues of land, housing and food rights.

In Uttar Pradesh, protest programmes were held in Ballia, Deoriya HQ and Bankata Block, Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Mau, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Sonbhadra, Allahabad, Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheeri, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Bijnaur, Mathura, Muradabad, Banda, Faizabad and other districts. Activists from AIKMS, AIARLA, CPI (ML) and AIPWA took part in these protests in large numbers. They raised slogans against imperialist and pro-corporate communal Modi-Yogi governments and demanded their ouster in the interests of the poor, farmers, workers, minorities, women, and above all the country as a whole. A memorandum was submitted to the Government of India with their demands. The biggest mobilization was seen at Chandauli headquarters where more than 650 people participated in the rally and meeting.

In Assam, a demonstration was held in Guwahati on the issues of land-housing and food rights for all. The demonstration was organized under the banner of AIARLA.

In Jharkhand, a dharna was held in the leadership of All India Kisan Mahasabha-Jharkhand convenor, Com. Puran Mahto in Giridih.
