French Election Results: Defeat of Far-Right Candidate

The decisive defeat of Marine Le Pen, the candidate of the far-right party FN (National Front) in the French Presidential Elections is a welcome verdict against racism, Islamophobia and fascism by the French people. Marine Le Pen polled 33.9% of the vote and the winner Emmanuel Macron polled 66.1% in Round Two of the Presidential Elections. The emergence of the far-right party FN as one of the main contenders in the Presidential race in France, which had hitherto been dominated by social democratic and centre-right forces, is a matter of concern.

The decisive defeat of the far-right candidate is welcome antidote to the politics of racism and xenophobia that the likes of Trump, Modi and Le Pen espouse.
