AIPF Holds Dharna in Front of Governor against Amendments to CNT-SPT ACTS

A dharna was held in front of the Governor under the leadership of the AIPF on 19 December 2016 to protest against the forcible passing of amendments to the CNT-SPT Act by the Raghuvar government in Jharkhand and the slapping of false cases against those who agitated against the amendments. The dharna demanded the revoking of these amendments and taking back the false cases against protesters. They also demanded that forcible grabbing of land in Godda, Badkagaon and Dalma should end and the perpetrators of the firing in these incidents should be tried and punished.

The dharna was addressed by AIPF leader Dayamani Barla, Xavier Kujur, Sukhlal Pahadiya, Dalal Singh Munda, Chintamani, Junus Lakra, Sohanlal, Gautam Singh Munda, Eti Tirkey, Eli Sabba, Akash Tirath and others. The speakers said that just as the Modi government had brought the note ban to loot the poor and benefit the rich, the Raghuvar government had brought the amendments in the CNT-SPT Act to make it easier for Adani-Ambani and other rich capitalists to grab land in Jharkhand. The amendments are a direct violation of the 5th schedule of the Constitution. They stressed that the people of Jharkhand would never accept these amendments and would fight hard till they are withdrawn. Chintamani, from Azaadi Bachchao Andolan that has been waging a struggle against forcible land acquisition for Adani in Godda, said that without the consent of any of the raiyats, the government and the administration had staged a false act of ‘hearing’. When local raiyat farmers protested, they were lathicharged by the police.

The dharna was also addressed by leaders of the anti-displacement agitation Jerome Kujur and others. Proposing the vote of thanks Anil Anshuman said that the Raghuvar govrnent should take back these amendments and the false cases against protesters without delay, failing which AIPF would strengthen the agitation and carry it forward on a State-wide basis.
