Police action on protestors participating in Insaaf March in Delhi

In Delhi, an Insaaf March has been called by JNUSU demanding justice for Rohith and Najeeb from Mandi House to MHRD. Students gathered with placards that carried demands of ‘Enact Rohith Act’, ‘Justice for Rohith’ and ‘Bring back Najeeb’. However, the police did not allow the march to procced as it unleashed a brutal crackdown on protestors, dragging and beating protestors. Most of the students were detained and the violence on students continued even inside the police station as JNUSU president Com. Mohit, and other student activists including Com. Shweta, Com. Umar and several others were targeted and brutally thrashed. Com. Om and Com. Hamid were also forcefully dragged and injured. However, the police action failed to deter the spirit of students as they declared that Spectre of Rohith will continue to haunt the present government.

In Hyderabad too AISA activists participated in candle march in remembrance of Rohith Vemula organized by the student union of EFLU. The EFLU, the posters released by AISA on the National protest day call were torn under administrative instructions. In University of Hyderabad, the police brutally pulled away Radhika Vemula, Rohith’s Vemula, while trying to disallow her to visit the site where her son had spent his last days.

In Kolkata, AISA called for a march to Raj Bhawan as part of the National Protest day call. Nearly 39 AISA activists were lathi charged and detained before they could reach Raj Bhawan. However, undeterred by the police action, several others continued to gather at Lal Bazaar demanding justice for Rohith and Rohith Act.

Insaaf Marches were also held in Chandigarh, Tenali (Andhra Pradesh) among other places.
