Baruipur Minor's Rape and Murder: CPIML Liberation Team Visits Spot, Demands Judicial Probe

A CPI(ML) Liberation fact-finding team visited Baruipur, West Bengal on July 7 following the brutal gang rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl, meeting the bereaved family, local residents, and police officials while demanding an immediate judicial inquiry, the arrest of all accused, and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.

The victim, an 11-year-old girl from a minority family residing in Suryapur Haat under Dhapdhapi-II Gram Panchayat in Baruipur, was gang-raped and murdered on July 4. Her body was recovered from a local waterbody the following day.

Soon after the incident, the West Bengal State Committee of CPI(ML) Liberation issued a strong condemnation, demanding a judicial inquiry into the crime, the immediate arrest of all those involved, and speedy punishment for the guilty. The party also demanded an end to the growing rape culture, justice, equality, and fearless freedom for women, alongside comprehensive administrative and institutional reforms to ensure women's safety.

During its visit, the fact-finding team interacted with the victim's family and local residents, visited police camps in the area, and gathered first-hand information about the incident and the progress of the investigation.

The party condemned the police's initial reluctance to register the family's complaint and said the failure to arrest all the accused immediately reflected the collapse of the administration. CPI(ML) also called for an end to the culture of rape, sexual assault and violence that has been allowed to flourish across the state, demanding justice for the victim, equality and fearless freedom for women, and comprehensive administrative and institutional reforms to guarantee women's safety and dignity.

The CPI(ML) delegation comprised Indrani Dutta, Nabakumar Biswas, Shishir Chatterjee, Sujay Kumar Guha, and Sangram Mandal.
