Comrade Sanu Bharti, District Committee member of CPI(ML) Liberation in Jharkhand and the party's Simaria Block in-charge, passed away on July 13 at the age of 69 following a brief illness. He had been undergoing treatment for the past week. He is survived by two daughters and four grandchildren.
Comrade Sanu Bharti joined the Left movement in the 1990s and became an active organiser under the banners of the Indian People's Front (IPF) and the Jharkhand Mazdoor Kisan Samiti (JMKS). He played a leading role in organising poor peasants, agricultural labourers and rural workers, while consistently fighting communal forces and advancing the struggles of workers, peasants and the rural poor. He also actively participated in the movement for a separate Jharkhand state, facing police repression and detention on several occasions.
Paying tribute to Comrade Sanu Bharti, the party said he devoted his entire life to the cause of the oppressed and remained steadfast in the belief that rights can be won only through organised struggle. His passing is a major loss to the party and the people's movement in the region.
