CPI(ML) Liberation filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Calcutta High Court on June 19, challenging the blanket and unconstitutional re-verification of all caste certificates issued to Dalits, Adivasis, and OBCs in West Bengal over the last fifteen years [WPA(P)/304/2026]. The petitioners on behalf of the Party are State Secretary Abhijit Majumdar and State Committee member Malay Tewari.
The Party has stated that, having completed an "SIR to snatch voting rights," the BJP government is now launching an "SIR to snatch reservation rights."
Instead of properly implementing the existing mechanisms for scrutinising fake certificates and conducting vigilance inquiries, genuine SC, ST, and OBC citizens are being subjected to interrogation and harassment. In effect, the BJP-RSS seeks to undermine the identity of an entire generation of the Dalit-Adivasi-Bahujan community and the constitutional rights that flow from that identity.
The Party has also pointed out that linking the inclusion or exclusion of a person's name in the SIR to the verification of caste certificates is wholly illegal and without constitutional basis.
CPI(ML) has filed this case in the interest of the Dalit-Adivasi-Bahujan community and remains committed to pursuing this legal battle.
The CPI(ML) West Bengal State Committee calls for building broad-based campaigns and movements across society to defend these constitutional and democratic rights.
