CPI(ML) Liberation has extended its support to the ongoing strike of sanitation workers across Bihar, which began on July 30. The party criticised the state government for failing to take any positive steps towards addressing the workers’ demands even after four days of the strike.
CPI(ML) Bihar state secretary Kunal said that Bihar has become the only state in the country where permanent recruitment of sanitation workers has been virtually abolished. He pointed out that sanitation workers are now being appointed through outsourcing companies, which pay wages below the minimum wage, in a blatant violation of workers’ rights.
Comrade Kunal said that sanitation workers are on strike demanding regularisation of their services, job security, an end to contract and outsourcing systems, full implementation of ACP/MACP benefits, and payment of pending dues. CPI(ML) called upon the Bihar government to immediately accept these legitimate demands.
He warned that if the government fails to act, CPI(ML), along with affiliated trade union organisations, will take to the streets across Bihar in support of sanitation workers and intensify the struggle.
The party reiterated that the fight for dignity, fair wages, and secure employment of sanitation workers is a fight for the rights of all working people.
