CPI(ML) Liberation strongly condemned the fascist saffron attack on the Kolkata headquarters of Ananda Bazar Patrika, the fourth pillar of democracy, on September 1. Goons of the BJP-RSS attacked the newspaper office and smeared its walls with saffron paint, openly displaying their hooliganism and exposing their fascist character.
In a statement issued by CPI(ML) Liberation West Bengal State Secretary Abhijit Majumdar on September 1, he strongly condemned the saffron terrorist attack and demanded the immediate arrest of the saffron goons responsible. He also demanded a speedy investigation and exemplary punishment for those involved.
On August 19, a saffron force led by the local MLA and the former acting Vice-Chancellor illegally entered the Jadavpur University campus. They remained inside the Administrative Building until midnight, setting it on fire and attempting a deadly attack on hostel-residing students. The following day, their attempt to enter the campus again through a procession was defeated by the united resistance of the university's left student organisations, alumni and local residents.
When Ananda Bazar Patrika described this unprecedented and disgraceful attack as “saffron hooliganism,” BJP-RSS goons launched an open attack in broad daylight, determined to strike at the newspaper's constitutional right to freedom of expression and establish a regime of fear. The direct threats and incitement against the newspaper by the state's Chief Minister further provoked this attack.
