Saharanpur Mosque Demolition: Another Assault on Muslims by BJP’s Bulldozer Raj

The CPI(ML) strongly condemns the bulldozing of the 70-year-old mosque located at the Saharanpur Collectorate in the early hours of September 5. The demolition is yet another expression of the BJP government's politics of hatred and its systematic targeting of Muslims.

Under the Modi-Yogi governments, Muslim minorities, their places of worship and educational institutions are being subjected to repression and demolition. Hundreds of madrasas, mosques and mazars in districts along the Nepal border have already been demolished or shut down in the name of regulations. In Rampur, a conspiracy was hatched to demolish Mohammad Ali Jauhar University on technical grounds. The action was temporarily halted following student resistance and a stay order from the Divisional Commissioner, but the threat of bulldozer action against the university remains.

The mosque had become a target of organisations of the saffron forces, and following their petition, a City Magistrate's order was used to carry out its demolition. The authorities did not even allow the affected side an opportunity to approach the High Court before the bulldozer was brought in.

The demolition is part of the illegal and unconstitutional bulldozer raj that has been imposed across Uttar Pradesh. Places of worship and institutions associated with minorities are being targeted under the cover of administrative orders and technical justifications.

The CPI(ML) demands an immediate halt to such bulldozer actions and the restoration of democratic and constitutional rights. The politics of communal hatred and the targeting of minorities must be resisted and defeated.
