New Delhi, 26 July.
The CPI(ML) expresses deep grief at the passing of veteran leader Comrade DP Bakshi early this morning. He was 70. Comrade Bakshi was a central committee member of the party, and till he was diagnosed with cancer recently, was a long-standing member of the party Politburo.
Responding to the call of Naxalbari and Comrade Charu Mazumdar, Comrade Bakshi, plunged headlong into the ML movement while studying in Durgapur Regional Engineering College along with fellow Comrades Vinod Mishra and BB Pandey. He was released from jail after the lifting of the Emergency and devoted himself wholeheartedly to the expansion and consolidation of the CPI(ML) across the country. Apart from West Bengal, he contributed immensely to the development of the Party organisation in Assam, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. He played a key role in developing the Party on the working class front, especially among Railway workers.
In spite of his failing health over the years he had never hesitated to travel and take on Party responsibilities. He was much loved for his good natured, patient conduct towards all in all kinds of trying circumstances.
His funeral will take place tomorrow 27 July in Kolkata.
Red Salute to Comrade DP Bakshi !
