CPI(ML) Statement on Nitish Kumar’s Resignation and the Political Crisis in Bihar

New Delhi, 26 July.

The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) led by Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav won a powerful mandate from the people of Bihar. The essence of this mandate was a decisive rejection of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s politics that posed a threat to social justice and communal harmony. Now, two years later, the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resigned citing allegations of corruption against RJD leaders.

The fact is that the Grand Alliance has been a divided house for a considerable time now, with Nitish Kumar working against the mandate by siding with the NDA on crucial political issues like demonetisation and the Presidential Poll.

Now, the RJD must not give Nitish any excuse to return to the BJP fold in utter betrayal of the mandate given to him and to the alliance by the people of Bihar.
