On 11 May, the All India Kisan Mahasabha held a demonstration at the minor Secretariat, demanding that the two Bills on farmers’ rights, passed by the Kisan Sansad on 20 November 2017, be enacted by Parliament. The AIKM saluted the legacy of the 1857 First War of Independence that had begun on 10 May 1857, initiated by sepoys who were of peasant origins. AIKM Vice President Comrade Prem Sigh Gehlawat addressed the gathering and explained the main points of the Farmers’ Freedom from Debt Bill, 2017 and the Farmers’ Right to Assured Remunerative Prices for Agricultural Produce Bill, 2017.

Mahendra Singh Chopra, leader of the State’s Lal Jhanda Bhatta Mazdoor Union (brick workers’ union) as well as various activists of the AICCTU and AIKM addressed the gathering.
