In accordance with the resolution passed at the 10th CPI (ML) Party Congress the 127th anniversary of Dr Ambedkar’s birthday on 14 April 2018 was observed across the country as the Save the Constitution Day. Reports from Jhrakhand are shared below:

In Jharkhand, Protest marches and meetings across the State reverberated with slogans asking the Modi-Raghuvar governments for answers on the dilution of the SC ST Act, women’s safety, loot and corruption, and the attacks on democracy and the Constitution.

At Bagodar in Giridih district a march was taken out which culminated in a meeting at Bagodar Bus Stand. Former MLA Com. Vinod Singh, and Comrades Puran Mahto, Parmeswar Mahto and Paan Mahto led the march and addressed the meeting. On 15 April a meeting was organized at the Youth Club, Surja, Jamua Block, Giridih District presided over by Panchayat Samiti member Sonia Devi and conducted by teacher Narayan Kumar Das. The speakers at the meeting included Raj Dhanwar MLA Com. Rajkumar Yadav, Ashok Paswan, Chandrika Mehta and Deepak Kumar. The speakers said that Babasaheb Ambedkar had given us the Constitution which guaranteed equality to marginalized sections like SC/ST/OBC/minorities who had been for centuries oppressed by Brahmins and other privileged sections. The need of the hour is to walk on the path shown by Babasaheb and protect the Constitution from the evil designs of the forces who are trying to destroy it. A Sankalp march was also taken out at Jamua culminating in a meeting at Jamua Chowk with a resolution to rename it as Ambedkar Chowk. A march and meeting were also held at Bengabad, addressed by State Committee member Rajesh Yadav who said that the dilution of the SC ST Act is a conspiracy to destroy the Constitution, and condemned the Modi-Raghuvar governments as protectors of rapists, looters and oppressors. He said that we must carry forward Babasaheb’s principle of ‘educate, organize and agitate’.Marches and meetings were also organized at Gawa, Devri and Birni Blocks. The Ambedkar Vichar Manch organized a Sankalp March in Barwadih which is an affiliate of the CPI (ML).

A huge march with over 500 people was organized in Garhwa district starting from the Party office and culminating in a meeting at Ambedkar Chowk. Marches and meetings were also held in Bokaro Steel City, Dhanbad, and Gobindpur. Marches and meetings were also organized in Devgarh district at Jasidih, dalit bastis Mahuadabar and Kadambona (Mohanpur Block), Palamu and Jamtara Districts, Dumka city and Gumla city in Gumla District.
