The Fekla Thana in Bahadurpur (Darbhanga, Bihar) was gheraoed by hundreds of villagers under the banner of the CPI (ML) to demand the suspension of the Thana in-charge for taking bribes from the poor and the returning of the bribe taken. Earlier, a rally was held from Chhaprar Math led by Abhishek Kumar and others through Julus Chakka, Pirdi and Kushothar villages culminating in the gherao of the Fekla Thana. The Sadar Zonal Police official Anuj Kumar, Bahadurpur Thana in-charge Raj Narayan Singh, and Bahadurpur BDO Avinash Kumar reached the place.

Only after the arrival of the SDPO did the protesters calm down. Addressing the Thana gate meeting presided over by Damodar Paswan, Com Abhishek Kumar, Jangi Yadav, Shanichari Devi and others said that the Fekla Thana is anti-people and it has become common to demand a bribe of Rs 10,000 to 20,000 from even the poorest sections. In the latest incident, the Party committee got the news that 4 people had been falsely detained in a land dispute and released only after they paid a bribe of Rs 10,000. The Party leaders went to the village and held a meeting with thousands of villagers where it was decided to gherao the Thana on 18 May. Getting wind of this, the Thana in-charge tried to manage the situation by sending a constable to return the bribery amount. But the Party leaders were firm that the gherao would proceed as per the decision taken by the villagers.

The gherao ended when the DSP assured the villagers that an enquiry would be held and action would be taken on the Thana in-charge within 2 days, and the bribery amount of Rs 10,000 was returned to the victims. The Thana gherao has had a good impact on the nearby villages and also in the entire district.
