An investigative journalist Sudeep Datta Bhowmik who recently did a story and exposed corruption in Tripura State Rifles 2nd Battalion was shot dead on 21 Nov. inside the Battalion headquarters. Bhowmik was a reporter of Syandan Patrika, a Tripura daily and a local TV news channel was reportedly called to the battalion commandant Tapan Debburma’s office at RK Nagar where he was shot-dead by his personal guard on duty.

CPI(ML) Tripura State Committee has strictly condemn this ghastly murder terming it another failure of the Tripura Govt. to protect the life of a journalist. The party has called it an attack on the freedom of speech and on the Press and demanded a Judicial Enquiry and immediate arrest of the killer commandant and his staff.
