Amman steel company of Coimbatore employed migrant workers from Odisha through a Contractor. About 50 of them are staying in shelters provided by the company. Both the Principal Employer and the Contractor failed to disperse their wages for the last 45 days. Aggrieved workers led by AICCTU marched straight into the District collector’s office with a Memorandum. The starving workers were firm in their resolve to redress their grievances, Collector’s Office was forced to arrange food for them for the whole day and Collector instructed the labour department officials to resolve the issue. The workers came back after the assurance of wage payment but they also decided to come again through a protest demo on 8 July if Payment was not made as per the promise made.
