Responding to the countrywide call given by the Jan Ekta Jan Adhikar Andlan (JEJA: People’s Unity for People’s Rights), a range of mass organizations and unions held a march to Raj Bhavan at Ranchi from Jaypal Singh Stadium in which hundreds of students, workers, youth and women participated.

The march culminated in a meeting at the Raj Bhavan after which a 23 point Memorandum was submitted to the Governor. Addressing the meeting the speakers said that the Modi government promised Achhe Din (Good Times) but instead has delivered tragic times and is carrying forward the anti-people neo-liberal policies of the previous government with greater alacrity. Petrol-diesel and other prices are skyrocketing; employment generation is at an all-time low; the economy is in tatters after demonetization and GST; corruption is flourishing and bank scams are at an all-time high; farmers and workers are distressed as never before; railways, banks, insurance and retail sectors are being hand over to foreign companies while laying claim to ‘nationalism’; the human development index of the country has fallen drastically and the impact on the people is a cause for grave concern.

The Raghuvar government in Jharkhand is conspiring to dilute the CNT-SPT Act in order to loot the State’s natural resources. Large scale migration from the State is on; people are dying of hunger through non-distribution of rations; the Forest Rights Act is being blatantly flouted; unorganized workers, scheme workers, students, youth, farmers are in distress; incidents of sexual violence against women and minor girls are on the increase; Constitutional rights of dalits and adivasis are being diluted through creation of parallel and unconstitutional ‘village samtis’ to weaken elected Panchayats.

The meeting was addressed by leaders from AIKM, AIKS, AITUC, CITU, AIYF, DYFI, Adivasi Adhkar Manch, Samajik Andolan, AIDWA and AIPWA.

A ‘Pol Khol Halla Bol’ (Exposing the failures of the Government) was also held in Karnal, Haryana on 26 May 2018.
