Candle Light Memorial for Victims of NTPC Disaster

The CPI(ML) and AICCTU organized a memorial candle light protest march on 3 November at Bhagalpur Station Chowk to pay condolences to the workers killed in the Rae Bareli (Unchahar) NTPC accident and against the Modi-Yogi governments at the Centre and in UP.
Leading the protest, Com. SK Sharma said that the Modi-Yogi governments’ craze for power led to the death of the workers at NTPC. The death of those workers at Unchahar NTPC was no mere accident. For PM Modi the accident at the NTPC plant is a matter of grief but he cares nothing about the workers who lost their lives in this accident. These fascist governments are the merchants of death and workers across the country must strengthen their unity and fight against them.

The CPI (ML) and AICCTU have made the following demands:

    1. Rs 1 crore each and government jobs to the families of all the workers killed in the accident; Rs 25 lakhs each to the workers injured in the accident.

    2. The correct number of workers dead in the accident should be revealed; a high level enquiry into the accident and stringent punishment for all the guilty.

    3. The Modi-Yogi government should stop playing with the lives of workers and selling off the workers for the benefit of the corporate houses.

The candle-light protest was attended ML City Secretary Com. Suresh Prasad Sah, AICCTU State Council members, comrades Subhash Kumar, Amar Kumar, Chanchal Pandit, Mohd Chand, Rupesh Yadav, Brajesh Kumar, Sayed Bashar Ali, Ram Lakhan Ram and other activists.
