May Day: More Reports from States

ODISHA

Unions affiliated to AICCTU organized a meeting at Nagbhushan Bhawan in Bhubaneshwar. Meetings were also organized at Kendrapada, Badgarh, Puri, Sonpur, Raigarha, Jajpur, Gajpati, Bolangir and Keonjhar. AICCTU leader Com. Radhakant Sethi addressed mine workers at Keonjhar. A joint trade union march was taken out at Bhubaneshwar led by AICCTU leader Com. Mahendra Parida.

CHHATTISGARH
Thousands of workers participated in rallies and meetings at Bhilai, Raipur, Kumhari and Korba.

WEST BENGAL
AICCTU and CPI (ML) organized programmes at different places in Kolkata with demands of workers’ rights. In the evening a joint Left rally was taken out at the Shaheed Minar Maidan by AICCTU, CITU, AITUC and other Left unions and organizations. The rally was attended by hundreds of workers and addressed by Com. Dibakar Bhattacharya (AICCTU), Com. Deepak Dasgupta (CITU), Com. Ashok Ghosh (UTUC) and other leaders.

Rallies and meetings were also held in North 24 Parganas at 32 places including Nouhati and Nadiya (where an anti-fascist rally was taken out at Krishna Nagar). Rallies were taken out at Howrah, Bali, Siliguri (Darjeeling district), Ravindra Tea Estates in Kharibari and addressed by comrades Basudev Bose, Abhijit NMajumdar and Lalu Oraon.  A conference was organized by Shachindra Tea Estate Unit and a 17 member committee was elected with Com. Lal Oraon and Com. Joseph Oraon as President and Secretary respectively. May Day progammes were also held at Kooch Behar, North Dinajpur, and Raiganj.
