Demonstration at Begusarai Municipal Corporation

The CPI (ML) Beguserai City Committee held a ‘Jawab Do’ (We Demand An Answer) demonstration on 28 July 2017 at the Municipal Corporation on the issue of housing for the poor and other important demands. 300 urban poor led by City Committee Secretary Com. Rajesh Srivastava started the march from NH-31, proceeded through the main streets of the city and reached the Municipal Corporation where a demonstration and meeting was held. Addressing the meeting, Party District Secretary Com. Diwakar Kumar said that power-hungry Nitish has betrayed the people’s mandate by joining hands with the BJP and forming a government which the people had voted to prevent. The condition of the poor is dismal. The urban poor lack housing. The distribution of kerosene has been stopped and now preparations are going on for stopping ration distribution also. AIARLA District Secretary Com. Chandradev Verma said that the Municipal has become the hub of corrupt representatives, officials and middlemen. The people are being looted in the name of housing and toilets and the silence of the Mayor shows that he is complicit in this loot. City Secretary Com Rajesh Srivastava demanded that a survey of urban poor should be done and housing should be made available for them; this should be done with utmost speed especially for the poor living next to the railway lines and NH-31. A 20 point charter of demands was submitted to the City Manager.

Earlier on 21 July a ‘rail chakka jam’ was held at Sabdalpur Station to demand employment for the farmers whose lands had been acquired for the Munger rail-cum-road bridge.

On 29 July (a day after the ‘Jawab Do’ rally) a protest was held at Veerpur zone to demand land, housing, employment and ration-kerosene for the poor and loan waivers for farmers. A 5 point charter of demands was submitted to the Zonal Officer.
