Jan Prativaad Sabha and Gherao in Garhwa

A Jan Prativaad (People’s Protest) Sabha was organised on 27 May 2017 in the grounds of Rajakiya Madhya Vidyalaya in Bisnupur block of Garhwa, Jharkhand. Prior to the protest, the party had undertaken a massive campaign to mobilise people against- (i) the conspiracy to lynch people through mobs by terming them as children thief, (ii) killings of three people by feudal goons in order to strengthen their dominance, (iii) custodial deaths, (iv) amendments in the CNT-SPT acts, and (v) other anti-people policies of the communal fascist government of Jharkhand.

Addressing the protest meeting, Com. Rajkumar said that not only in Jharkhand but in all BJP ruled states, the domination of the feudal goons and criminals was increasing. A jungle raj has been established in the country, be it Saharanpur in UP or Jamshedpur-Kolhan-Jatpura in Jharkhand. Neither are the criminals arrested nor do Chief Minister or local MLAs feel the need to visit the victims. The Chief Minster is trying to misguide the people by talking about a high-level inquiry. He further added that the process of cutting online receipts for land was a design to carry out further loot of land. He promised to raise this question in the July session of the Assembly. He also provided an assistance of Rs. 10,000 to the families of the victims from the MLA fund. He further warned that if the accused are not arrested immediately, a gherao would be done on 31 May. As per this announcement, a gherao of the Deputy Commissioner was done on 31 May.

Addressing the gherao, the secretary of the CPI (ML) Garhwa district unit, Com. Kalicharan said that the Jatpura massacre happened because of the nexus between the police administration and the sand mafia of the mining department. The villagers in Jatpura had been complaining and to suppress this the Tihra massacre was carried out. The protestors demanded arrest of the accused, government jobs for the family members of the victims and compensation. Thousands of people participated in both the programmes.
