9th Tamil Nadu State Conference of AICCTU

Two-day state conference of AICCTU Tamil Nadu was held on December 16 – 17, 2017 at Chennai. The conference venue was called Com. Srilatha Swaminathan Nagar and the hall was named after Com. Swapan Mukherjee. An 11-member presidium conducted the proceedings. The delegate session started with flag hoisting by Comrade Radhakrishnan. Com AS Kumar moved the condolence resolution. A total of 184 delegates comprising from Civil supplies corporation, co-optex, government press, electricity board, transport, BHEL, Ordnance factory, water board, construction, powerloom, textile mills, sanitation, automobile, surface transport, factory workers of Indian as well as multinational corporations and unorganised sector workers participated in the conference.

Com. Balasubramanian, AICCTU’s National Vice President inaugurated the conference. Com. Balasundaram, CC member of CPI(ML) greeted the conference. Com. Dhanavel, state president of RYA, Com. Seetha, state council member of RYA, Com. Athiyaman and Com. Bharathi of Democratic Advocates’ Association also addressed the conference. The outgoing general secretary, Com. Sankarapandian presented the draft document and it was passed unanimously after the delegates presented their views.

The delegate session resolved to carry forward the struggle demanding justice for 2 pricol workers who have been awarded life sentence. AICCTU will go for a massive signature campaign with the memorandum addressed to Chief Justice of India demanding him to hear on the SLP with its inherent powers. Supreme court has already dismissed their appeals without even hearing. The conference also resolved to continue the fight against Fascist Modi regime and for the ouster of the corrupt, anti-people Edapadi Palanisamy government which is also serving the interest of BJP.

Fraternal Trade union leaders Com. Raja Sridhar, National president of HMS, Com. Subburaman, National president of LPF, Com. Sukumaran, state general secretaries of CITU, AITUC and AIUTUC also participated in the open session of the conference and declared that the life imprisonment for two Pricol workers is an assault on the working class movement of India as a whole. They said that they will not just express solidarity but also engage their unions in the movement for the justice for the two Pricol workers.

Com. Jeyalaxmi, wife of life convict Com Manivannan was present and she obtained signatures from all leaders in the dais in the memorandum addressed to CJI. Com. Kumarasamy, National President of AICCTU in his concluding address said that HC judgement convicting two Pricol workers are with flaws and it is a good case for SLP. But SC has refused to hear. With a massive signature campaign, we demand the CJI to use the inherent powers to hear the matter to do justice. He called upon the entire working class movement to stand in solidarity with Pricol workers who are launching a valiant fight against the onslaught of Capital. Conference concluded with thundering slogans and Internationale.

Conference elected 101-member state council with Com AS Kumar as President, Com. Sankarapandian as General Secretary and Com. Bhuvana as Honorary President.
