The CPI(ML) has strongly condemned the public harassment, groping and assault of a minor girl student and a fellow student in Jamui in Bihar, who were returning from coaching, and said the incident has exposed the BJP-led Bihar government’s claims of women’s safety and law and order.
In a statement issued on September 21, 2026, CPI(ML) Bihar State Secretary Kunal said the incident, whose video has surfaced, has sparked widespread outrage across Bihar. He said a minor girl was publicly surrounded and harassed, while the student accompanying her was assaulted by a mob and the incident was recorded on video.
“This is not merely a criminal incident but raises serious questions about the rule of law and administrative accountability in Bihar,” he said.
Kunal said the BJP and the Bihar government must not attempt to evade responsibility by merely announcing arrests after such incidents. “When the government claims to ensure a safe environment for girl students, why are such incidents continuing? Women’s and students’ safety cannot remain a matter of speeches and government claims. It requires concrete security arrangements and accountability, from the streets to educational institutions,” he said.
He questioned whether the incident represented a “cultural shock” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The CPI(ML) demanded increased police patrolling in sensitive areas, immediate action on complaints and time-bound investigations into crimes against women. It called upon the Bihar government to ensure that all those responsible for the Jamui incident receive strict punishment under the law and to establish a concrete and accountable security system for women and girl students across the state.
