Thousands of workers, farmers and other working people protested under the banner of the CPI (ML) on 21 September 2017 with a 13-point charter of demands on people’s issues. Most of the protesters had come in groups from various villages. The rally, led by District Secretary Com. Mahanand, started from the party District office and ended in a meeting at the Collector’s office where a memorandum was submitted to the district administration.
The speakers addressing the meeting raised many people’s issues like education, health, electricity, roads, old age pension, false electricity bills, housing, and said that the administration does not bother to find any solutions despite their attention being repeatedly drawn to these issues. They pointed out that the Bihar government has decided to close down 1771 primary schools including those in Dhorha, Nisanpur Sarwar, Karpi, Dhobni, Jagmohan Bigha, Sukan Bigha. The situation regarding electricity, lighting, toilets, water tanks, taps, hand-pumps, is also dire and anti-poor. After a long struggle the liquor ban has been imposed in Bihar but the draconian provisions in this law have become the bane of the poor. Under these draconian provisions, orders have been issued for the confiscation of more than 4 dozen people in Arwal district. Other issues raised in the protest related to sand removal, laying off sanitation workers in the city, housing land for the poor and landless. The meeting was addressed by comrades Upendra Paswan, Jitendra Yadav, Ravindra Yadav, Rajnarayan Choudhury, Mahesh Yadav and others.
