AICCTU workers of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Workers organized a demonstration on 27 December 2017 at Karmika Bhavana, Dairy Circle, demanding- (i) urban local body wages for contract workers of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP); (ii) same work same pay for contract workers on par with regular employees as per Contract Labour Regulation, and Abolition Act; (iii) regularisation of all contract workers; (iv) Abolition of contract system in BWSSB; (v) direct payment and yearly bonus.
The Labour Commissioner assured that orders on minimum wage of urban local bodies shall be passed immediately and scheduled a tripartite meeting involving Labour Commissioner, BWSSB officials and the AICCTU union. Com. Balan, union President and Com. V Shankar , All India Vice President, AICCTU addressed the 700 strong workers gathering during the demonstration.
