AICCTU March in Delhi’s Wazirpur Industrial Area
On 9 September, AICCTU organized a rally in the Wazirpur Industrial area against the attack on workers and the hooliganism of the employers. On 8 September, a worker was severely beaten by a factory owner and his goons in B66/2 Wazirpur Industrial Area. He was thrown out of the factory and left bleeding. The worker had gone to demand the outstanding wages of past 6 months. The factory owner refused to pay the wages and when the worker protested, he was badly beaten up and left in near dead state. When AICCTU activist Com. Ajay tried to intervene in the matter and raised the voice for the worker, then the police also beat him up and unleashed brutalities on him.
These incidents have now become usual in Wazirpur where workers are being subjected to repression by the owners and the repression becomes more brutal every time a worker protests and raises voice for the workers’ rights. It has been found that the state government and the police are also with the owners in their oppression of the workers. On 9 September, AICCTU team visited the injured worker at home and assured him and his family that he was not alone in his struggle. The wife of the worker participated in the rally called by AICCTU on 9th and appealed for unity of the workers. A large number of workers joined the rally and expressed their anger.
