On 24th October CPI (ML) Korkadu local Committee in Puducherry took out a massive Padayatra from Korkadu Village to the Assembly Hall of Puducherry U.T. The entire stretch of 15 Kilometers reverberated with slogan “SAVRE KORKADU ERI” (Save Korkadu Lake). Hundreds of activists from CPI(ML) and AICCTU participated in the Padayatra. The yatra was led by Com. S. Purushothaman, Puducherry District CPI(ML) Secretary. Party’s Central Committee member comrade S. balasubramanian flagged off the yatra.
Balasundaram, All India Vice president of AIARLA addressed the marchers. Senior party leaders including P. Murugan, A. Saroja, M. Maliga, Motilal, R. Alagappan also addressed the participants at various places during the yarta. All the CPI(ML) Party Branches in the way down to the Assembly Hall of Puducherry welcomed the participants with great enthusiasm.
The other main demands raised in the yatra were:

(i) Remove the encroachments and patta Land in the middle of the water spread area of Korkadu ‘Eri’.
(ii) Proper compensation to the farmers who own Patta Land inside the Lake.
(iii) Waive the farmers loan as assured in the floor of the assembly.
(iv) Implement the MNRGES days in all villages without delay.
(v) Functioning of the Fair Price shops in the entire UT of Puducherry with all assured items including Kerosene.
At the end of the yatra a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister of Puducherry.
