As per the call given during the Peasant Parliament held in New Delhi on 20 November, the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), the state unit of AIKM, Tamil Nadu, held a convention at Vizhupuram on 24 January, 2018.
The main demands included profitable price for agricultural produce. During the convention, the AIKSCC formulated two bills in support of the demands for which they would try to seek national support and demand that they be enacted in the current winter session of the Parliament. Com. Venkatesan, convening body member of Tamil Nadu AIKM presided over the convention. Com Simpson, National EC member and state convenor of AIKM and Com. Chandramohan, spoke in the convention. The two speakers highlighted the peasant crisis prevailing in Tamil Nadu and the entire country and also the anti-peasant nature of the central and state governments. The convention demanded passage of the peasant bill in the current session of Parliament. The convention also strongly condemned the AIADMK government for steeply hiking the bus fares which were badly affecting the poor, marginal and middle peasants. Com. Balasundaram, State president of AIARLA also addressed the convention. District unit member of AIKM Com. Ezhumalai proposed a vote of thanks.
Com So. Balasubramanian, state secretary of CPIML, Puducherry addressed the convention. Activists from Salem, Madurai and Nagappatinam also attended the event.
