The first conference of AICCTU Sitarganj unit in Uttarakhand was held on 21 January 2018 at Ambedkar Foundation. The conference started with a juloos in which several participants walked through the city holding bright red flags with images of hammer and sickle. The juloos was led by district AICCTU President Com. Dinesh Tiwari, CPI(ML) district secretary Com. Anand Negi, AICCTU district vice president Com. Bacchi Singh Bisht and secretary Com. Reeta Kashyap. Slogans raised during the hour long juloos included- ‘Defeat the saffron conspiracy’, ‘Down with Fascism’, ‘Friendship with Adani-Ambani while betrayal of the workers will not be tolerated’, ‘Regularise ASHA and Anganwadi workers’, Ensure minimum wages of Rs.24,000’, ‘Stop contractualization’, ‘workers of the world unite’, and ‘changes in labour laws will not be tolerated’.
The juloos was followed by the inaugural session. Inaugurating the session, AICCTU district secretary com. Dinesh Tiwari said that the saffron conspiracy will be defeated by the working class in the end. The session was also addressed by other AICCTU and CPI(ML) leaders of the district. The second session which was the organizational session was addressed by Com. K.K. Bora, the state general secretary of AICCTU. He called for taking forward the workers’ initiatives along the Marxist- Leninist path. The conference gave the call for ensuring the success of the central trade unions’ call of ‘Jail Bharo Programme’ on 29 January. A 17-member area council was elected with Com. Bacchi Singh as President, Com. Mohan Singh As secretary, Com. Manju as Vice President, Com. Sanjay Joshi as Joint Secretary and Com. Sundar Ram as treasurer. The conference ended with enthusiastic sloganeering and singing of ‘We shall overcome’.
