Sanitation and water supply workers of AICCTU demonstrated before the office of the Karnataka Labour Commissioner on 2nd Aug 2017, demanding regularisation of all existing contract workers, same pay for same work, direct payment to workers by the Bangalore Municipal Corporation, etc. Thousands of workers joined the protest which was led by Com. Clifton, All India Secretary, Com. Maitreyi, NCM, Com. Nirmala, General Secretary of BBMP contract workers union, Com. Vinay, Vice President, Appanna, state Secretary, Com. Mohan, SCM and Com. Hemant, BWSSB. The Labour Commissioner was forced to come to the spot and address workers. He assured to expedite a decision on equal work equal pay. Women sanitation workers participated in huge numbers.
