New Delhi 25 April, 2017.
The killing of 25 CRPF personnel by Maoists in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, is the latest incident in the unfortunate and condemnable spiral of violence in Bastar. The State’s militarized response to the Maoist insurgency has resulted not only in a spate of human rights violations of adivasis in the region but also the needless and avoidable deaths of paramilitary personnel. The Maoists’ military actions are futile in building any movement against corporate grab of land or resources or state repression. Instead such actions play into the hands of the State. We call for an immediate ceasefire from both sides and for a political solution to the conflict in Bastar.
