A joint convention was held on 28 October at Allahabad against the anti-people and anti-worker policies of the NDA government. Almost all trade unions participated, including CITU, AITUC, AICCTU, INTUC, CDA, Pension, Rail, Insurance, Defence, State Workers Council, NCRWU and other unions. Only the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) did not participate.
Com. S. N. Thakur (Convener, All India Centre of Railway Workers, affiliated to AICCTU) was the main speaker at the convention. He said that the NDA government is bent on reducing the strength of workers. All workers from every sector must unite and come together to fight against this anti-worker, anti-people government. We also need to join the youth and students of the country with the workers’ movement.
The convention was presided over by Com TP Mishra. Convener Dr Kamal Usri said that the movement would be strengthened at District office level and would be turned into a huge people’s movement. The proceedings were conducted by Ministerial Workers Association President Ram Sumer.
