SOME MAJOR INITIATIVES IN WEST BENGAL

1) TheTMC led State Govt, party& mass organization has let loose a reign of terror upon the struggling force and the working people witnessed an unprecedented state sponsored attack during the 48 hours All India General strike called by all the CTU’s& Federations on 2013.Despite threat intimidation, the workers & employees rose to the ocassion & made the strike a grand success.AICCTU took multiple initiatives and stood at the forefront of this struggle.

2)After 9 months of continuous movement, all the operatingTU’s of tea industry, management &govt signed a new Industry wise tripartite agreement.United ‘Joint Forum ‘ of all the TU’s of this industry, including AICCTU, organized various forms of struggle, viz, convention, hunger strike, bandh and forced the management & govt to arrive at a settlement.The state govt has finally given notification of minimum wage, hitherto absent in this industry and our union ‘Terai Sangrami Cha Shramik Union’ has played a vanguard role during this entire period of struggle.

3)The industry wise Charter of Demand placed by all the operating unions of Jute Industry on 30Jan, 2013 has finally been settled.The anti worker clause of linking productivity-linked wages in the previous tripartite agreement during LF regime has finally been deleted in this agreement which was a bone of contention with the management and one of the factor for such a protracted negotiation process.5000 workers of the industry,though a meager amount, will be promoted from the existing status of badli to special badli and from special badli to permanent.The floor level wages has been enhanced from Rs 157 to Rs257 and though meager, Rs 26 has been increased in the basic for the existing workers.

4) All the CTU’s in the transport sector have launched united movement against the anti worker proposed bill of the Central govt and is preparing for the all India transport strike on 30th April.A bulletin has been published on this issue by AICCTU which has gained wide popularity.

5) The State Level Construction workers Federation is striving to increase its membership and to build up movement on various demands .A number of district committees have organized district conferences and the state comt has planned to organize it state conference in this year.

6)The contract workers union of SERail. has been able to snatch some of its demands.Delegates from this union participated in the All India contract workers conference at Bengaluru and its fighting image is gradually attracting contract workers in that region.

7) A state level union of mid day meal workers has been formed which has taken a number of initiative particularly at Habra 24 parganas(N).Initiative is afoot to organize the Asha workers with AIPWA at state level has been taken.The Asha workers are particularly active at Hooghly dist and also at west Medinipur.

8) After achieving some significant result for the workers of closed Gouripur jute mills, initiative has been taken to realize the statutory dues of the closed PSU Mohini Mills at 24 Parganas (N).Apart from various forms , a writ petition has been filed at Kolkata High Court.
8) The state level Bidi union had been able to realize minimum wages and house building facilities as per the welfare act of this industry.

9) The last state level gathering on 8th Dec 2014 was a grand success.More than 5 thousand workers from different sectors participated and the presence of women worker was very impressive.

10) In all the joint programs of CTU’s we take active part and the civil disobedience programe will be taken on 13 May, as due to some unavoidable reasons it could not be taken on the scheduled date.
