Bihar Ban on Open Sale of Meat and Fish is Anti-Poor and Socially Divisive

Attempts to replicate the UP model of bulldozer politics and hatred in Bihar, targeting the lives and livelihoods of minorities and marginalized sections, will be firmly resisted.

The Bihar government’s decision to ban the open sale of meat and fish represents an extension of the “UP model” into Bihar and an attempt to impose it on the state’s social and cultural fabric.

The move is not only insensitive but also an economic attack on the poor, including fisherfolk communities and small traders engaged in the meat business. Such an order could create an atmosphere of fear similar to mob lynching incidents and may end up targeting minority communities.

Attempts to replicate the UP model of bulldozer politics and hatred in Bihar, targeting the lives and livelihoods of minorities and marginalized sections, will be firmly resisted. CPI(ML) demands the immediate withdrawal of this arbitrary and divisive decision.
