The statement issued by the Election Commission of India confirms the explosive investigative report in today's Indian Express regarding serious disagreement within the EC and arbitrary role of the CEC. The issues flagged by the Election Commissioners confirmed objections raised repeatedly by many including our party. The ECI's attempt to downplay it as only a partial picture and standard feature of EC's internal deliberations is a pathetic cover-up attempt to defend the indefensible.
The IE report only corroborates the irregularities that have been identified in various public audits and studies of the SIR process. The flawed SIR process has already resulted in mass disenfranchisement and harassment of millions of voters. No election held on the basis of doctored and compromised electoral rolls can certify the so-called success of the Election Commission.
In the light of the Indian Express investigative report which now stands confirmed by the EC itself, we are writing to the President of India raising the following demands:
1. Immediate impeachment of Gyanesh Kumar
2. Immediate suspension of the SIR process
3. Urgent measures to restore the voting right of every wrongfully excluded voter
4. Cancellation of all the elections held since the launch of the SIR and order of fresh polls in concerned states
5. Constitutional amendment in compliance with the spirit of the Supreme Court judgement regarding appointment of Election Commissioners and measures to ensure neutrality, transparency and accountability in the conduct of the Election Commission.
