We are deeply saddened by the horrific flash floods along the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal, which have swept through parts of Nuwakot and Dhading districts, causing catastrophic devastation and loss of lives. The massive floods, originating in the Tibetan region, have claimed numerous lives, including several Indian tourists, and affected hundreds of people across the border.
The flash floods have also heightened the threat of flooding downstream along the Gandak River in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The Union and state governments must immediately strengthen all necessary precautionary and relief measures to ensure the safety and protection of people living in vulnerable areas.
We express our deepest condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones and stand in solidarity with people across borders in the fragile Himalayan region, who are enduring immense suffering and devastation in the wake of this tragic disaster.
The Union government must immediately initiate all necessary efforts to evacuate stranded and affected Indian tourists in Nepal and ensure that they receive all required assistance. At the same time, India must extend all possible humanitarian, rescue and relief support to the people of Nepal in this hour of grave crisis.
