CPI(ML) Liberation extends its congratulates the United Left panel comprising All India Students Association (AISA), SFI, and DSF for sweeping the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) Elections 2025–26, overcoming the aggressive campaign and violent disruptions by the ABVP.
Polling for the JNUSU elections was held on November 4, and results were declared on November 6.
Comrade Aditi (AISA) has been elected President, Comrade Gopika (SFI) as Vice President, Comrade Sunil (DSF) as General Secretary, and Comrade Danish (AISA) as Joint Secretary.
This year’s election recorded a 67.17% voter turnout, 5,818 out of 8,657 registered voters. Comrade Aditi secured 1,970 votes, Comrade Gopika around 3,100, Comrade Sunil about 2,005, and Comrade Danish close to 2,100 votes, marking a decisive victory for the Left alliance.
Held for the second time this year to realign with the university’s academic calendar, the elections were marred by large-scale violence and intimidation by the fascist student organisation ABVP, which attempted to sabotage the democratic process. Students, including outgoing JNUSU office bearers, were subjected to physical assault and verbal abuse, including casteist, misogynistic, transphobic, and Islamophobic remarks. Instead of protecting the victims, the Delhi Police, acting under RSS-BJP directions, brutally attacked those protesting the violence. Despite such systematic intimidation, the students of JNU stood firm and united, defeating the ABVP’s money-and-muscle politics with collective resolve and courage.
In a statement, AISA noted that over recent months, students have faced hostel evictions, withdrawal of means-cum-merit scholarships, installation of surveillance systems in libraries, and fund cuts in academics. The administration’s push toward privatization through HEFA loans, seat cuts, and political appointments has further eroded the public character of the university. Yet, students have defended JNU’s “debate and resist” culture, upholding its legacy as a symbol of democratic and inclusive education.
Simultaneously, elections were held for the Internal Committee (against sexual harassment), where Left-backed candidates, Comrades Garvita, Shruti, and Paran emerged victorious from the UG, PG, and PhD constituencies, reaffirming the university’s commitment to a gender-just and accountable campus.
AISA also noted that the election also stood in solidarity with the oppressed and marginalized Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis, women, and political prisoners persecuted by the fascist regime and with global struggles against imperialism and genocide, from Palestine to Congo and Sudan.
CPI(ML) wishes more power to AISA and all progressive student organisations in their ongoing battle for student welfare and public education, and in the broader struggle against privatisation, communal hate, and fascist aggression.
