The AISA-SFI alliance has entered the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election campaign with a panel of candidates rooted in student struggles and a call to defeat money-muscle politics on the campus. At a joint press conference on September 12, the alliance underlined its connection with recent student and youth movements, including the struggles at Jantar Mantar and Satya Niketan, and presented its candidates as representatives of the fight for student rights, accountability and democratic campus spaces.
AISA Delhi Secretary Comrade Anjali said progressive forces had been at the forefront of the struggles at Jantar Mantar and Satya Niketan and therefore entered the election campaign with a strong political advantage. She appealed to students to strengthen the alliance in the DUSU elections.
AISA’s presidential candidate Ananya, ballot number 1, spoke of her experience of living near Satya Niketan and witnessing the conditions faced by students there. She stressed the need to hold accountable those responsible for the murder of students.
For the post of Vice-President, Akshat Shikhar, ballot number 5, is contesting with the experience of the Re-NEET 2026 struggle. Coming from Allahabad and having grown up between Patna, Delhi and Allahabad, he said his experience as a student affected by the issue had drawn him into the Jantar Mantar movement. He said he would continue the struggle for student rights through the union.
Stanzin Deskyong, ballot number 4, the alliance candidate for Secretary, comes from a village in Ladakh and is a former President of the Ramjas Student Union. She had led a movement against sexual harassment at Ramjas College, demanding the resignation of Prof. Dhani Ram. Her campaign has focused on fighting injustice and making campus spaces inclusive and accessible.
For Joint Secretary, B Parijat, ballot number 1, brings the experience of growing up in a farmer family in western Uttar Pradesh. Referring to the Satya Niketan tragedy, he said the failure of responsibility and accountability had left ordinary students suffering. He called for students to reject the politics of money and muscle in DUSU and bring about a change in the union.
SFI Delhi President Nadia said the coming DUSU election would mark an important shift in the political narrative on campus and reflect growing student confidence in progressive forces. She appealed to Delhi University students to vote for the AISA-SFI panel.
The alliance has presented the four candidates as representatives of struggles around student rights, safety, accountability and democratic access to campus spaces, seeking to challenge the established politics of money and muscle in DUSU.
