Attack on Chief Justice BR Gavai Reflects Emboldening of Forces of Hate and Violence Against Dalits and Minorities

The CPI(ML) strongly condemns the attack on Chief Justice of India BR Gavai inside the Supreme Court on October 6. This brazen act reflects the growing impunity enjoyed by those who foment hate and violence against the Constitution and the rights of Dalits, minorities, and other marginalised sections of society.

The hate and violence fomented by the RSS had resulted in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in January 1948. And today, the impunity granted to the perpetrators of hate against the Constitution and the rights of Dalits, minorities and marginalised sections of the society has emboldened the heirs of Godse to attack the CJI right inside the Supreme Court. If a person attacking a Dalit in the highest judicial office gets away with such a glaring act of atrocity, we can easily imagine the state of Dalits in ordinary walks of life.

This casteist attack on CJ Gavai is not just an attack by a Hindutva fundamentalist, but an attack of Hindu majoritarianism on the Constitution and the democratic values it represents. CPI(ML) calls upon the people to unite and intensify the movement in defence of the Constitution, democracy, and the rights of Dalits, minorities, and all oppressed sections of society.
